Daily Devotional: Psalms 30:1-5
Ps 30:1-5
1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
2 Cor 1:3-5
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God. 5 For just as the sufferings of Christ flow over into our lives, so also through Christ our comfort overflows.
From time to time we need to get alone with God and rehearse in our minds all of the good things he has done for us. We need to remember the times we were faced with great trials and he delivered us. The times we did not know how we would cope or why they were upon us but he delivered us and then used them to prepare us to help others. There were times we gave in to some temptation and God lifted us from the miry pit and set our feet on solid ground so we praise him and use even our sin to encourage others as they seek to remain faithful.
Most of all we remember how he has forgiven us so many times for so many things we have done against him. It may be as simple as that hurtful remark we made to someone or how we treated our spouse or children but thanks be to God we realized our sin and accepted his forgiveness in Jesus Christ.
There are those who are battling addictions or ongoing temptations and as they live one day at a time, they can look to God and rejoice that he has given them strength to win the battle one more time. We need to pray for them, encourage them and be there for them and not belittle or judge them. After all, I am only right with God because of his forgiveness and my sin sent Jesus to the cross the same as the vilest sinner in the world. So I praise God, he has forgiven me!
Thank you Lord for your mighty works in my life. You have carried me in times of grief, you have kept me going when I wanted to give up. God, you have healed my wounds when I have been hurt so badly. You have forgiven me when I have sinned against you in so many ways. While I do not understand why some of the things have happened to me as they have, I trust you and praise you for using even the worst of them to make me a better person and to increase my faith in you so I can help others in their struggles. It is in the name of Jesus I pray.
