Daily Devotional: Psalms 32:6-7
Ps 32:6-7
6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will reach him. 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah
Heb 4:14-16
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are-yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
There are some things we cannot know or understand fully until we have experienced them ourselves. We see others suffering from all kinds of things and our sympathy is limited because we have never been through them ourselves. But when we have experienced them, we actually feel what they feel.
It is important for us to understand the humanity of Jesus while he was living on the earth. For him to be our sacrifice and our example, he had to be human in every way that we are human. He faced all of the same temptations and heartaches we face, yet he never sinned. He was truly one of us.
So Jesus understands from experience what we go through each day. He has been tempted in every way as we are and he feels our pain, our longings and all of our sorrows. It is with this understanding that he, as our high priest, goes before the Father for us and pleads our case. Knowing this, we can come to God with the confidence that he will hear us and act on our behalf.
This privilege is open to us at all times. We do not have to wait until some special time of the year or some special service of God's people; we can come to God and talk with him any time, day or night. So Paul tells us to bring everything to God with thanksgiving and he will take away our anxieties and cares.
My Father and my God, thank you for your great love for me. Thank you for being willing to hear me and act on my behalf. You have blessed me in more ways than I can possibly count or even know. Even though I seek to serve you, I have failed you in so many ways. Please continue to forgive me and empower me to be more like you every day. Keep me from being selfish, closed minded or stubborn and open my heart to your will. Fill me with your love and compassion so I can bring glory to you and be used to help others draw closer to you. Thank you for all those who are an encouragement to me. I pray in the name of Jesus. Robert
