Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:6-11
Ps 33:6-11
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars; he puts the deep into storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the people of the world revere him. 9 For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. 10 The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples. 11 But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations.
2 Tim 1:12-13
12 That is why I am suffering as I am. Yet I am not ashamed, because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day. 13 What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus.
As a young boy growing up in a different era along with a neighborhood of other young boys, we explored all kinds of mischief. Some ended as funny, some as annoying to others and some with severe punishment. One such thing (and you can decide the category) that happened was that we changed a speed limit sign near our house. It was posted as 30 MILES PER HOUR and we changed it to 80 MILES PER HOUR. Now the sign plainly said the new speed was acceptable however, it did not change the law or how it was enforced.
We can rewrite the word of God and change all kinds of things he has said to be right or wrong but that does not change his will for us or what is acceptable to him. Our society has adopted as acceptable behavior murder, immorality and a host of other things that God calls sin. As Christians we are ridiculed, laughed at or railed upon for holding to God’s word but we must be true to him.
The good news is that God is faithful. He created the world and all that is in it and by his power and the power of his Son, it is sustained. We know in whom we have placed our trust and he does not change and can be trusted in all things. His word never fails. This means his promises for us are sure.
Thank you Lord, God of heaven and earth for your faithfulness. Thank you for your steadfast love and the assurance you give me in this life that a better and eternal life is coming. Help me revere you and your name in all I do and say. Use me to bring glory to you. Give me greater faith so I will not be ashamed of you or the name of Jesus my Savior. Lord, while it is usually easy for me to serve you, I know there are those in other parts of the world that do not have this freedom. I ask you to please be with them and keep them faithful and protect them from harm. Help me use my freedom to your glory. I pray in the name of Jesus.
