Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:18-22
Ps 33:18-22
18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.
James 1:16-18
16 Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18 He chose to give us birth through the word of truth that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
Jesus said we are to let our “yes” be “yes” and our “no” be “no”. This means we say what we mean and mean what we say. Paul told the Corinthians that when he said yes it meant yes and in Jesus his message is yes to us all. This is based on the fact that God does not change his word toward us. Paul said that even if an angel from heaven should preach a different gospel than the one he had delivered, he would be accursed. The gospel is the same today as it was 2000 years ago.
The great news of this is that the needs of mankind have not changed in this time and the gospel still provides the answers to them. Add to this that the promises of God are just as sure today as they were when they were recorded in the Bible but the bad side of this is that his warnings still remain too.
We place our hope in Jesus Christ; his life, his death and his resurrection. With the assurance that he overcame death, we live each day in victory over sin. It is with assurance that we arise each morning knowing that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, we live each moment in that knowledge and then go to bed at night knowing we are right with God. It does not mean we never sin or fail in doing the will of God but we are forgiven as we seek to walk in his light and allow his Spirit to live in us. So no matter what we face in life, God is with us and will protect us. Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.
Lord God, thank you for providing your saving grace, your forgiveness through the blood of Jesus your Son. Thank you for revealing your gospel to me in your word and your will for my life. Give me wisdom to know how to apply your word each day so I will be used by you. Motivate me to do more to help others and to meet their needs, both physically and spiritually. Help me be the right example for those with whom I come in contact so they will see Jesus in me. Guard my mouth so I will say that which will build up and encourage others and bring glory to your name. I ask this in the name of Jesus my Savior and my Lord.
