Daily Devotional: Psalms 35:4-10

Ps 35:4-10

4 May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plot my ruin be turned back in dismay. 5 May they be like chaff before the wind, with the angel of the LORD driving them away; 6 may their path be dark and slippery, with the angel of the LORD pursuing them. 7 Since they hid their net for me without cause and without cause dug a pit for me, 8 may ruin overtake them by surprise--may the net they hid entangle them, may they fall into the pit, to their ruin. 9 Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and delight in his salvation. 10 My whole being will exclaim, "Who is like you, O LORD? You rescue the poor from those too strong for them, the poor and needy from those who rob them."

Heb 13:20-21

20 May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, 21 equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

If we learn nothing else from the Psalms, it should be that we can trust God to take care of us in every situation we face in life. No matter what the problem or trial, God is aware of it and is capable of handling it for us. When we face outward foes or those who would detract us in our spiritual walk, God will give us the strength to win the battle. When we face disease or other physical trials, God is in control. So the only variable is whether we trust him or not.

One of the things that makes this difficult for us is that we do not see things the way God sees them. Our timing is based on our calendars or our clocks and God does not keep time in that way. His timing is based on what is best for us and our ultimate spiritual good. Another problem for us is that we see death as bad and defeat but for God it is our transition from this world of sorrow and pain to the eternal home with him. It is victory. He will hear and answer our prayer, but it may not be what we think is best or in the time we think it should happen.

Lord God, majestic and holy is your name in all the earth. You are supreme over all things in heaven and earth and we give glory to you. Keep me in your constant care and continue to forgive me when I fail to be all you want me to become. I ask you to give me wisdom to live according to your word and to be able to share your gospel with those around me. Thank you for your assurance that you do hear my prayers and give me what is best. Increase my faith to trust you in all things, even when I don’t understand. I pray in the name of Jesus, your Son.
