Daily Devotional: Psalms 40:11-13
Ps 40:11-13
11 Do not withhold your mercy from me, O LORD; may your love and your truth always protect me. 12 For troubles without number surround me; my sins have overtaken me, and I cannot see. They are more than the hairs of my head, and my heart fails within me. 13 Be pleased, O LORD, to save me; O LORD, come quickly to help me.
Rom 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
There are times in our lives when we feel just how sinful we are or have been and how far removed we have been from God. In fact, any sin that we allow to live and flourish in our lives takes us away from God. It is then that we pour out our hearts to him in repentance with words that are inadequate to express the pain and sorrow we feel. It is then we realize the depth of his love, the truth of his mercy and the reality of his grace. He has forgiven me!
What a joy to live in the assurance that God is on our side and there are no limits to what he can do for us. As we draw closer to him, he is drawing closer to us. He has given his special Son to die for us so we can live with him. He has given us all we need to know and do to accept his saving grace and then live a life that is holy – set apart from the sinful world around us.
No matter what we face in life, God is going to be with us and protect us. This does not mean we will not face temptations but it does mean he will give us a way to escape them and the strength to overcome. He has promised to give us the wisdom to live for him. When we stumble, he will pick us up and put our feet back on solid ground. As long as we walk in him, there is nothing in the entire universe that can tear us away from him or his love for us.
O God, thank you for your love, your mercy and the forgiveness that comes in your grace. Thank you for hearing my prayer when I am in distress and thank you for giving me the courage to face each day, knowing you will be by my side. Use me to spread your gospel and to encourage the weak. Help me study your word more and to understand it better so I can live more like you. Give your comfort to those who are in sorrow, your peace to those in turmoil and your healing to those who are sick – as you see and know best. Thank you for those who help me in so many ways. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior and my Lord.
