Daily Devotional: Psalms 46:7-11

Ps 46:7-11

7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah 8 Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. 9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. 10 “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” 11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Matt 1:22-23

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”-which means, “God with us.”

Matt 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

When Jesus came to the earth, he was “God with us” in the flesh. When he left the earth and returned to the Father, he promised to still be with us. We do not live in a vacuum apart from God but rather, he is around us, among us and he is within each of his own. In him we live and move and have our very life.

This means that when we face problems in life, whether it be the small things in our personal lives, something major that is life changing or some international crisis, God is still with us. We do not face it alone but we face it with God and the knowledge that he is in control. He has the answer to whatever we face before we even know we have a problem.

Our responsibility is to allow him to have his way with us. We are to learn from our trials, we grow from our hardships, we profit from our mistakes but most of all we trust God to show us the way with his wisdom and the strength to do his will in all things. The closer we move toward God, the closer he comes to us.

O God, my heavenly Father, I thank you for telling me that no matter what I face in life, you are with me. I know that so many times when I have faced things in my life that did not seem to have a way out, you have shown me the way. Thank you for doing this. Give me your wisdom to see things in this life as you see them instead of looking at them from a “this world” view. Help me use what you have given me and made me to glorify you and your name. Keep me from worrying as I remember you are in control. I pray in the name of Jesus your Son.
