Daily Devotional: Psalms 49:12-15
Ps 49:12-15
12 But man, despite his riches, does not endure; he is like the beasts that perish. 13 This is the fate of those who trust in themselves, and of their followers, who approve their sayings. Selah 14 Like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them. The upright will rule over them in the morning; their forms will decay in the grave, far from their princely mansions. 15 But God will redeem my life from the grave; he will surely take me to himself. Selah
1 Peter 1:23-25
23 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, “All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord stands forever.” And this is the word that was preached to you.
It was Jesus who said we must be born again. When we are born in the flesh, we face the fact of death. These physical bodies wear out and our lives come to an end on the earth. Even if we are blessed with what we call a lot of years, we soon look back and it seems what others call a long life is but a few short years. So like the grass or the flowers of the field, we soon are gone. Regardless of how much wealth we accumulate, we cannot buy extra years when we face death.
For those who are born again, there is given a new body that is immortal and will not wear out and will never die. This eternal body is never ravaged with disease, with sickness or pain. There will be no abnormalities or imperfections in the new bodies given us by our Lord. So as surely as our Lord was raised from the grave, so we will also be raised to live forever in the presence of our God. Death is not the victor over those who have been born again but the victory is in the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Peter tells us that we are born again unto a living hope. We are promised an inheritance reserved in heaven that will never fade or spoil. He also assures us that we are protected by faith in this life so that we do not lose our reward.
My heavenly Father, I thank you for your love shown to me in giving Jesus to come to earth and to live and die for me. Please never let this wonderful story of Jesus lose its beauty and wonder in my heart. Your love, your mercy and your grace is beyond my ability to understand. Help me as your child to constantly grow in your grace and to grow closer to you each day. Open my heart for the dwelling of your Spirit so I can be made more in your likeness as I truly become a partaker of your divine nature. Help me focus on Jesus and the things above so I will only want to do your will in all things. I pray in the name of Jesus.
