Daily Devotional: Psalms 54:1-7
Ps 54:1-7
Save me, O God, by your name; vindicate me by your might. 2 Hear my prayer, O God; listen to the words of my mouth. 3 Strangers are attacking me; ruthless men seek my life--men without regard for God. Selah 4 Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me. 5 Let evil recoil on those who slander me; in your faithfulness destroy them. 6 I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you; I will praise your name, O LORD, for it is good. 7 For he has delivered me from all my troubles, and my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.
Rom 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I would like for each of us (including me) to ask ourselves a question today:
Do I trust God – I mean, do I really trust God?
Real trust is shown in how readily we obey his will. That means I do what he says in his word without trying to make excuses, without trying to reason it away and even when it doesn’t make sense to me why God would say do it.
Real trust is shown in my lack of worry. When Jesus told his disciples to not worry about what they would eat, what they would wear or other things of this life, he ended his admonition with “O you of little faith”. When I really believe that God cares about me – me personally – and he knows everything about my situation in life and he is able to do something about it, why would I worry? He has promised to always do what is best for us and never allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to endure but rather provide our way out. So why do we worry? Why do we feel sorry for ourselves instead of thanking and praising God?
Real trust is shown in my lack of complaining. Israel of old was punished and many of their people destroyed on several occasions because of complaining. We are told that these things happened and are recorded for our learning that we will not complain as they did. Yet, how often do I find myself complaining about my lot in life and all the problems which I face each day? Sure, they are real but since God is in control, I will thank God for all he is doing for me and his care over me.
Thank you God, my heavenly Father, for all you do for me. Your blessings are far beyond my ability to count and yet I see them in my life all day every day. I praise you for your wisdom in creation and for your love shown to me in Jesus. Thank you for my physical family. Thank you for the opportunity of being a part of your spiritual family. It is only by your providence that I know about Jesus and your saving grace in him. Lord, there are several I know who have cancer and other diseases and I ask your care on them. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus.
