Daily Devotional: Psalms 57:6-11
Ps 57:6-11
6 They spread a net for my feet--I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path--but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah 7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. 8 Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. 9 I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. 10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. 11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.
Eph 3:20-21
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, 21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.
We spoke yesterday of the power, majesty and glory of God and how it is beyond our ability to comprehend. As we grow spiritually, we come closer and closer to God in our hearts, our minds and in our lives. This maturity yields greater strength on our part to resist temptations as we put to death the things of the flesh and allow the Spirit of God to live in us.
But the most mature among us is not immune to temptation. In fact, Paul tells us that just when we think we are standing, we better watch out because that is when we will fall. This is because our strength is not in ourselves but in Jesus Christ and his indwelling Spirit. We like Paul are strong when we are weak. Our strength comes as we yield our wills and our lives to God.
This maturity makes us realize that our righteousness is not our own or from our own doing but is from God. He is the one who makes us free from sin and right in our relationship with him. It is his forgiveness through the blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all sin and restores our fellowship with him.
So because of the grace of God toward us, we live soberly, righteously and godly in this wicked world. As the children of God we seek to be like our father and show others his way of salvation in Jesus Christ. In so doing, we bring glory to God and we honor his holy name. Jesus is our Savior, our Lord and our King.
O Lord my God, I am awed by your majesty and your wisdom demonstrated in the way of your salvation provided for me in Jesus your Son. Thank you for your love and your grace. I need you every hour of every day to continue to cleanse me and renew my strength; to increase my faith and dependence on you instead of my own power. As I realize how much you have forgiven me, help me never look down on others as they struggle to serve you and as you forgive them. Use me in your will to help others live for you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
