Daily Devotional: Psalms 60:6-12
Ps 60:6-12
6 God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Succoth. 7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah my scepter. 8 Moab is my washbasin, upon Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph." 9 Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? 10 Is it not you, O God, you who have rejected us and no longer go out with our armies? 11 Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. 12 With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
Acts 17:24-28
24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.
One of the reasons why many “worship” a false god is because they are looking for a god to serve them instead of actually serving God. The Lord knew this would be a problem and so he told Israel they were not to put any other gods before him or make any images in the form of people, animals or heavenly bodies. As Paul said, many worship the creation instead of the creator.
God is God! We cannot repeat this too often or emphasize it too much. The more we recognize and acknowledge the power of God and the wisdom of God, the more we will understand his majesty and glory. The more we realize this, the more we will revere him, respect him and willingly obey him.
We are here to serve God, not the other way around. We are to love him with all our heart, our soul and our mind. We are to allow him to rule over us and guide us in all we do. When we come to him in Christ, we give him our all – we are his.
Thank you Lord for loving me. It is beyond my ability to understand how the God of the universe, creator and sustainer of life, can know me, love me and actually care about me and my situation in life. Thank you for all you have done for me in giving me life in this wonderful country and in the loving family you have given to me. Help me follow your will as a son, as a husband, as a father, father-in-law, and as a grandfather. Help me in every relationship and friendship to glorify you and honor your holy name and the name of Jesus. It is in his name I pray.
