Daily Devotional: Psalms 75:6-10

Ps 75:6-10

6 No one from the east or the west or from the desert can exalt a man. 7 But it is God who judges: He brings one down, he exalts another. 8 In the hand of the LORD is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs. 9 As for me, I will declare this forever; I will sing praise to the God of Jacob. 10 I will cut off the horns of all the wicked, but the horns of the righteous will be lifted up.

James 2:5-7

5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? 6 But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? 7 Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

We can never proclaim the greatness and majesty of God too much. When we believe he is God and is creator of all things, we ascribe him with honor and with power to do as he wishes. He alone decides what is right and what is wrong. We have no right to ever question him or his works. After all has been considered, it is the whole purpose of mankind to respect God and do his will.

But how does all of this lofty reasoning affect us? We are to study his word and learn his will for our lives. It is not up to the preachers or theologians to decide what is right or how we are to live. It is not up to a church or their governing bodies to make the rules for our lives. The civil authorities cannot pass legislation and change the morality God has established. God is God!

The second practical part of this is that we will answer to God for how we live in this life. It is appointed that each of us will die and after this we will face God in judgment. We can ignore him or argue with his will now but we are promised that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess Jesus Christ as Lord. A part of the authority given to Christ is that he will judge us. Paul says the proof of this is that God raised him from the dead. Jesus lives and he is Lord!

Heavenly Father, God and creator, you are majestic above all the earth. Help me never question your will for my life but simply obey you. Give me more desire to know you, more resolve to study your word, wisdom to understand it and the strength and self-control to put it into practice each day. Help me not put off the things I need to do today. Use me and what you have given me to help others as they seek to know you and serve you so I will bring glory and honor to you. Be with our country and our leaders. Help each of us show your love and to rid ourselves of hatred and bitterness. I pray in the name of Jesus.
