Daily Devotional: Psalms 84:1-7

Ps 84:1-7

1 How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD Almighty! 2 My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. 3 Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young--a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God. 4 Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you. Selah 5 Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. 6 As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. 7 They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

1 John 3:1

1 How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.

The only blessing we have that is greater than being a child of God and being able to worship him and serve him in this life is that we can be with him in eternity in a new glorified body. We are not talking about some dignitary or superstar of this world. We are talking about the God of heaven and earth who created all things and gave us life and breath. This is the God who spoke to Moses as a man speaks with his friend but who also told him that he could not see his glory and live. To be in the presence of God made the face of Moses shine so brightly that the children of Israel could not stand to look at his face and begged him to wear a veil as he stood before them. This is the glorious and mighty God we serve.

The more we learn about God and his majesty, the more we realize just how great his love and his grace really are. We do not deserve anything from him but death and yet he still loves us and wants us to be with him. The price that has been paid for us to be in his family and to be able to come to him as our Father was the life and death of his unique Son, Jesus Christ. In this we renew our vows to him to live for him as we allow his Spirit to live in us and mold us to be like him.

O Lord God, eternal and majestic, I come to you in fear and deep humility and yet with boldness in the name of Jesus your Son. I recognize my own righteousness does not measure up to you or your standards but I am so thankful that you can count me as righteous by the blood of Jesus offered on my behalf. Thank you and praise to your glorious name. Give me the heart of the psalmist so that I will desire you and serving you more than life itself. Use me to lead others to you and to help them serve you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and my Savior.
