Daily Devotional: Psalms 85:1-7
Ps 85:1-7
1 You showed favor to your land, O LORD; you restored the fortunes of Jacob. 2 You forgave the iniquity of your people and covered all their sins. Selah 3 You set aside all your wrath and turned from your fierce anger. 4 Restore us again, O God our Savior, and put away your displeasure toward us. 5 Will you be angry with us forever? Will you prolong your anger through all generations? 6 Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you? 7 Show us your unfailing love, O LORD, and grant us your salvation.
Heb 2:1-4
1 We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away. 2 For if the message spoken by angels was binding, and every violation and disobedience received its just punishment, 3 how shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him.
Can you imagine being a part of a nation that was chosen by God to be his very own special people? Every action that was done when following his will would be successful. Every battle in every war would end only in victory. Your crops would never fail and your animals would not miscarry. This was indeed the situation for Israel when they followed the commands of the Lord and served him. It was only when they turned aside from his laws and served other gods that they faced any calamities, famines or hardships. But they did drift away from the Lord and they did face all kinds of punishment for their disobedience.
Today we are in the kingdom of Christ and we are God’s special people. We have a better law giver and a better law. We have better sacrifices which yields better promises. We have all spiritual blessing in Jesus Christ our Lord.
We have salvation from our sins. We have the promise of eternal life. But our promise today is conditional; as were the promises to Israel. We must continue to faithfully serve him. We must not drift away and allow the things of this world or the cares of this world choke our effectiveness of service to him.
Thank you Lord for loving me and for caring for me. Thank you for revealing your word to me and allowing me to become your child in Jesus Christ. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and the things above. Use me to tell others of your way of salvation in Jesus. I pray for your people everywhere. Many are facing difficult times and even persecution. I pray you will give them strength to be faithful. Keep me faithful in times of prosperity. Help me not allow the things of this world to become a distraction from serving you. Thank you for those who have taught me and helped me to understand your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
