Daily Devotional: Psalms 85:8-13
Ps 85:8-13
8 I will listen to what God the LORD will say; he promises peace to his people, his saints--but let them not return to folly. 9 Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. 10 Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. 11 Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. 12 The LORD will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. 13 Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
Phil 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
There is nothing that is sought in this world more than peace. People want peace with each other, with other nations as well as their next door neighbors. But the peace that most are looking for is that inner peace that we have with ourselves that brings us true joy. Some seek it in drugs or the bottle while others use all kinds of psychological or religious ideas and methods.
True peace, the peace that transcends understanding, is only found in Jesus. Only when we are at peace with God can we have a clean conscience and only then will we have peace. By faith in God we turn everything over to him in prayer and have no reason to worry or be anxious. We always feel his presence in our lives as he lives in our hearts – the Lord is near.
The Lord will indeed give us what is good as we rejoice in him with an inner joy that is unrelated to circumstances we face. We live in him and he lives in us as we know his love, his faithfulness and his peace. Since we are counted as righteous there is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. We are the children of God and we give him thanks for his salvation.
O Lord my God, when in awesome wonder I consider all you have made and all you do for me every day in my life, I can only come to you in deep humility and give you all praise and honor. Thank you for your love for me that is beyond my ability to comprehend. Thank you for the peace that you give my heart and the joy that thrills my soul. Strengthen my faith so I can turn loose of every care I face in life and allow you to carry my load. As I think over my life, I sit in wonder at all the times you have carried me through hard times and how you have given me just what and who I needed at the right times. I pray in the name of Jesus.
