Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:19-24
Ps 89:19-24
19 Once you spoke in a vision, to your faithful people you said: “I have bestowed strength on a warrior; I have exalted a young man from among the people. 20 I have found David my servant; with my sacred oil I have anointed him. 21 My hand will sustain him; surely my arm will strengthen him. 22 No enemy will subject him to tribute; no wicked man will oppress him. 23 I will crush his foes before him and strike down his adversaries. 24 My faithful love will be with him, and through my name his horn will be exalted.
Acts 13:21-23
21 Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years. 22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ 23 “From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.
God keeps his word. Since he is God, he cannot lie. When gods are made in the image of mankind, they have all the frailties of mankind. So as we study Greek mythology we learn of gods who commit adultery, gods who lie and gods who do all kinds of wicked and human things. But these are only gods in the minds of those who create them in their imaginations. God in his sovereignty made us in his image and he wants us to be like him in every way. When we come into the world we are pure and sinless. It is only as we mature and live that we commit sin and become guilty before God. But in our weakness, we all sin.
Just as God made a promise to David and kept that promise in Jesus Christ, so he has made promises to us in Jesus. In him we can have our sins forgiven and in him we have the promise of an eternal inheritance in heaven that is being kept for us and will not fade away. He has also promised that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus our Savior. As our creator and as our loving Father he can never deny his love for us. But we can deny our love for him and we can fail to receive that inheritance if we fail to be faithful to him. In such a case, he has not changed or failed to keep his word, we have failed to accept his promise.
Heavenly Father, give me your strength as you fill me with your Spirit and help me be faithful to you in all things. In my weakness and at times in my ignorance I fail to be all you want me to be. Open the eyes of my heart and give me your wisdom to know your will and how to apply it in my life. Thank you for your love and your faithfulness in all things. I ask you today to be with those who are receiving help and treatments for cancer and for other diseases. Give them strength and healing when this is your will. Use me to help them. I pray in the name of Jesus.
