Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:30-37

Ps 89:30-37

30 “If his sons forsake my law and do not follow my statutes, 31 if they violate my decrees and fail to keep my commands, 32 I will punish their sin with the rod, their iniquity with flogging; 33 but I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. 34 I will not violate my covenant or alter what my lips have uttered. 35 Once for all, I have sworn by my holiness--and I will not lie to David--36 that his line will continue forever and his throne endure before me like the sun; 37 it will be established forever like the moon, the faithful witness in the sky.” Selah

Eph 3:10-12

10 His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In my personal reading I have just completed the book of Leviticus. One of the things that stands out in my mind from this book is that God is God and therefore he expects his people to obey him. He repeatedly promises and warns the children of Israel that when they obey him they will be blessed but when they turn against him their blessings will cease and they will be punished. In one of these as he warns them of the terrible things that will happen to them, he affirms his love and says that if they will be willing to repent of their sin and turn back to him he will forgive them and accept them back.

John tells us that as long as we walk in the light of God we maintain our fellowship with him, with the Son and with each other because the blood of Jesus continues to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Later in his book he explains that the love of God is behind this blessing because God is love.

In the same book John also tells us that we cannot love the world and the things of this world and still love God. As we are surrounded by the desires of the flesh, it is easy to allow the sin that so easily entangles us to capture us. We must ever be vigilant and allow God’s Spirit to work in us. A part of the fruit of the Spirit is our self-control. God works in us both to will and do his good pleasure.

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder and I consider all the things your hands have made, I fall before you in total submission. You alone are my God and I want to be yours in every way. I know I fail too many times and I am so thankful that you provide a continued forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Help me be recommitted every day to put you first in every way. There are so many people who encourage me and I ask to be used to encourage those around me who are serving you. Use me to lead others to you through Jesus your Son. I pray in his name.
