Daily Devotional: Psalms 89:46-52

Ps 89:46-52

46 How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire? 47 Remember how fleeting is my life. For what futility you have created all men! 48 What man can live and not see death, or save himself from the power of the grave? Selah 49 O Lord, where is your former great love, which in your faithfulness you swore to David? 50 Remember, Lord, how your servant has been mocked, how I bear in my heart the taunts of all the nations, 51 the taunts with which your enemies have mocked, O LORD, with which they have mocked every step of your anointed one. 52 Praise be to the LORD forever! Amen and Amen.

Heb 5:7-10

7 During the days of Jesus' life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with loud cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. 8 Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered 9 and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him 10 and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

According to human wisdom there is no one who deserved to live a life of ease and pleasure more than the Son of God when he became flesh. Yet, there has never been one who has had to suffer more than he. He was born into a poor family with an earthly father who was a carpenter. During that time there was no “middle class” but all were either wealthy or were very poor. Later in his life, Jesus said that even though the birds have nests and foxes have holes to live in, the son of man did not have a place to lay his head at night.

When Jesus faced his impending trial, the beatings, the mockery and ultimately his crucifixion, he prayed with fervor for his Father to find some other way to carry out his will. But he was willing to yield to the will of the one who sent him and in doing so he learned obedience. God sent an angel to comfort him.

We will face all kinds of problems when we seek to do the will of God. We must continue to trust him and pray to him and he will comfort us and help us as we learn obedience by our reverent submission.

Thank you God for promising to be aware of my problems and the assurance that you love me. Thank you for giving me strength when I am weak and peace when my life is in turmoil. Give me a heart of reverent submission to you and to your will. Be with the leaders of our country and the other countries of the world that we may live a quiet and peaceful life. Since you put every official in office, help me be respectful toward them. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
