Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:1-6
Ps 96:1-6
1 Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day. 3 Tell of His glory among the nations, His wonderful deeds among all the peoples. 4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are idols, But the LORD made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before Him, Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
Eph 1:19b-23
These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
The children sing a song that says “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, there’s nothing my God cannot do.” The more we are impressed with his might and his power, the more we reverence him and his majesty. Our God spoke the world into existence and it is his. There is no god that can compare with our God.
Jesus was declared with power to be the Son of God by the resurrection. This was a declaration of what already was. Jesus was the Son of God before he was born into the world but the resurrection just affirmed it. He is now head over all things, both in the physical world and in the heavenly realms. It is by him that all things exist and by his power all things hold together.
As we grasp the power, the majesty and the splendor of the God we serve, we see that we have no reason to ever doubt him or his word. Nothing is too big for him to accomplish or too great for him to control. And what is so wonderful is that he uses this unlimited power in our lives and on our behalf. He has overcome sin and death and thanks be to God, in Jesus Christ we can overwhelming conquer too!
O Lord God, it is with deep reverence and humility that I come before you to admit just how small I am and how great you are in all your majesty. Yet, in the name of Jesus I can come before you with boldness and know you will hear me and empower me to live for you. I need you every hour of every day to help me overcome this world and all that confronts me but I live without fear or anxiety because I know you are with me. I know whom I have believed and I know you are able to keep what I have committed to you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
