Daily Devotional: Psalms 96:7-13
Ps 96:7-13
7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. 8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. 9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. 10 Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity. 11 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it; 12 let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; 13 they will sing before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his truth.
Rom 1:20-21
20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
In our world today we see some who are held up as being brilliant men who seem to know all the right answers about the universe and about life and yet because they deny the existence of God, they show themselves to be fools. One may have a vast knowledge of physics or some other science but without a knowledge of God, they really know nothing. And one of the sad things about this is that they are without excuse. God has made himself known in his creation.
The wise preacher of old had the opportunity to experience life in ways that most of us will never know. He had the wealth, he had the power and he had wisdom beyond anyone else. His conclusion was that without God in the equation, life is futile and meaningless; like chasing the wind. He declared the purpose of us all on this earth is to fear God and to keep his commandments because we will all face God in judgment one day. We are to live so that Jesus lives in us.
O Lord God, creator and sustainer of life and all things, I am so thankful for all you have given me in my life. I realize that I could have been born in a different time or some other place that would not have made my life what it is today and yet you chose to place me here and now. Thank you for my family that you have given me and thank you for so many Christian friends who mean so much to me in more ways than I can count. Help me honor you by using what I have and what I am to your glory as I help others in their lives. Bless our country and our leaders. Give strength and healing to those who are sick. I pray in the name of Jesus.
