Daily Devotional: Psalms 103:19-22

Ps 103:19-22

19 The LORD has established his throne in heaven, and his kingdom rules over all. 20 Praise the LORD, you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word. 21 Praise the LORD, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will. 22 Praise the LORD, all his works everywhere in his dominion. Praise the LORD, O my soul.

Col 1:13-17

13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. 15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

For almost thirty years I have worked for a company that is owned by a man who lives in Japan. It is easy to forget that he runs things according to his will and what he thinks is best. We may not see him for two or three years at a time but he is still in control. When he “suggests” that something should be done, we see it implemented very quickly, regardless of the cost and regardless if it was in the budget or not. When this happens, we are reminded who is in charge.

We don’t see God with our eyes or hear him speak with our ears but we see the effects of God all around us every day. It may be in what we call “nature” in the normal day to day routines or it may be in a storm, flood or earthquake but we see and hear God daily. We don’t understand how or why he controls the rulers and the nations of the earth as he does but we should never forget that he is still in charge. Everything is under control – his control and not ours.

What we really don’t see physically is that he has control over Satan, sin and all evil. He has won the victory over sin and death by the resurrection of Jesus. So when we are in him, we too can have the victory over all the sickness, the pain and suffering of this world. We have a home of eternal bliss with him.

Heavenly Father, I am so thankful that you know what is best for me today and every day. Give me faith and patience to yield my will to yours, even when – no, especially when I don’t understand. Instill in me a pure heart that seeks only that which is right and wholesome and that which brings glory and honor to your name. Forgive me when I fail to live up to this. Use me to help others serve you and to know your salvation in Jesus. I humbly pray in his name.
