Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:10-18
Ps 104:10-18
10 He makes springs pour water into the ravines; it flows between the mountains. 11 They give water to all the beasts of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. 12 The birds of the air nest by the waters; they sing among the branches. 13 He waters the mountains from his upper chambers; the earth is satisfied by the fruit of his work. 14 He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for man to cultivate--bringing forth food from the earth: 15 wine that gladdens the heart of man, oil to make his face shine, and bread that sustains his heart. 16 The trees of the LORD are well watered, the cedars of Lebanon that he planted. 17 There the birds make their nests; the stork has its home in the pine trees. 18 The high mountains belong to the wild goats; the crags are a refuge for the coneys.
Matt 6:30
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
In the study of biology, we see what is called the “food chain” that sustains life for all plants and animals. From the smallest to the largest, each is dependent on the growth of other things. It is not a competition for survival as has been taught by the evolutionist but is a demonstration of the wisdom of the creator of life. God cares about his creation and has made it possible for each part to supply the needs of other parts while keeping any one of them from taking over all of it. It is no accident, God is in complete control and feeds us all.
Jesus argued that since God cares about the birds of the air and even the grass of the field, he is even more concerned about us. God feeds the mountain goats and gives them the habitat they need to flourish and he supplies our needs today.
The issue is not God, his wisdom or his concern for us. The issue is about us and our learning to trust him in every part of our lives. This begins when we put our trust in him to tell us how to live. We cannot expect his protection if we spurn his love and his guidance in the way we live. He is God and must be revered.
Heavenly Father, it is so easy to just go through life and to live each day with no regard for you and all you do for me. It is both foolish and futile for me to become so involved in the day to day affairs that engulf my life and to forget you and your love for me. Help me keep my heart and my affections set on you and on your righteousness so that you are first in every aspect of my being. Fill me with your Spirit so I will be kind, loving, compassionate and forgiving toward others. Use me in your will and forgive my failings. I pray in the name of Jesus.
