Daily Devotional: Psalms 104:19-23
Ps 104:19-23
19 The moon marks off the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. 20 You bring darkness, it becomes night, and all the beasts of the forest prowl. 21 The lions roar for their prey and seek their food from God. 22 The sun rises, and they steal away; they return and lie down in their dens. 23 Then man goes out to his work, to his labor until evening.
Acts 17:29-31
29 “Therefore since we are God's offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone-an image made by man's design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”
From the beginning of time God has used his creation as proof that he is God and that all mankind should worship him. The logic of this is both simple and strong: God made us and therefore he has the wisdom and the right to tell us how to live, plus the fact that he will hold us accountable in a day of judgment. We may protest or argue or even deny the validity of it but he is still God and judgment is still a sure thing for us all. The evidence of creation abounds all around us.
The good news of this is that God wants what is best for us and that best is for us to live with him in eternity when we leave this life. But while we are here, he provides our daily needs and he watches over his children. This is not a promise that he will take away our suffering or make us all rich in worldly goods. It is a promise that he will give healing for our pain and give peace in the midst of our suffering. It is assurance that he will never allow Satan to take us away from him as long as we continue to put our trust in him and live for him.
It is in the resurrection of Jesus that we find our ultimate hope and place our trust because the same power that raised Jesus from the grave will one day raise us so we can be with God in all his glory in eternity. We revel in the thought of being in the presence of God and talking face to face with his Son. What a day that will be!
O Lord God, giver of life and creator of all that exists, I come to you as humbly as I know how and yet even then, I know it is only by your grace that I can approach you in prayer. Thank you for giving your Son to be my savior and also my advocate and my intercessor. Help me not be so focused on the things of this world that I forget what really matters. I ask your peace on those who are faced with problems, pain and suffering. Be with our nation and with our leaders and give them wisdom to do what is right. I pray in the name of Jesus.
