Daily Devotional: Psalms 106:1-6
Ps 106:1-6
1 Praise the LORD. Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Who can proclaim the mighty acts of the LORD or fully declare his praise? 3 Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right. 4 Remember me, O LORD, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, 5 that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise. 6 We have sinned, even as our fathers did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
Col 3:12-14
12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.
We must ever be impressed with God. He alone is perfect in holiness, and has wisdom that is matchless and unfathomable. It is by his word that all things have been created and continue to exist. His majesty is so great that anyone who sees his face will die. When some have gotten a glimpse of him, they fell on their face and worshipped him. When he spoke to Israel on Mount Sinai, even his voice was so great that Israel begged that he not talk directly to them.
We are made to be like God in purity and holiness but we have sinned as all of those who have come before us. We sin, not because we are evil in nature but because we make the choice to do so. In his moral justice God has declared that all who sin must die both physically and spiritually.
But God (one of my favorite phrases in all of the Bible) is love. God is filled with compassion and mercy. God wants us to be with him in eternity so he gave his Son to become sin for us and die for our sin so that we might be righteous in him and live with him forever. By faith we are buried with Christ in baptism and raised to be a new person, walking in his light and being forgiven of all our sin.
O Lord God, I am so thankful for your love, your compassion, your mercy and your forgiveness in Jesus Christ. Help me open my heart to your Spirit, to your word and to your bidding so I can become more like you in holiness each day. Open my mouth to speak to others about Jesus and your saving grace. Use me to help others live for you – both by my example and by the things I say. As I teach, give me wisdom to know the difference between being stubborn and self-willed and being strong and steadfast. I pray in the name of Jesus my Redeemer.
