Daily Devotional: Psalms 107:1-9
Ps 107:1-9
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. 2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say this--those he redeemed from the hand of the foe, 3 those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south. 4 Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle. 5 They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away. 6 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. 7 He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle. 8 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men, 9 for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
Heb 11:8-10
8 By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. 9 By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
The love of God endures forever. There is no place we can go that he is not with us and his love does not cover us. Even when we wander from him and seek to go our own way, he is there to receive us back if we will turn to him. One thing that has plagued mankind all through the ages is our stubbornness and determination to do things our own way instead of allowing God to lead us. But when we yield to him and his bidding, he will deliver us from our distress.
We allow our lives to be filled with anxiety and worries so that we begin to falter in our path but it is in vain. Jesus said we can come to him and give him our load and we can find rest when we take his yoke and follow his will. We too often are burdened with sin and guilt but we can give it to God and he will forgive. As we accept his pardon, he will take away the distress that drains the life from our souls and leaves us in despair. In return he gives us life and gives it abundantly.
O Lord God, I am so thankful for your enduring love for me. As I see how many times I have sinned and how far I fall short of your glory, I am so ashamed and wonder how you can still love me. Thank you for Jesus who loves me enough that he gave his life on my behalf. Help me always keep in mind your great sacrifice and the love you have shown so I will be diligent every moment of every day to be what you want me to be. Use me to share your great love and to reach out to help others as they seek to serve you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
