Daily Devotional: Psalms 107:17-22
Ps 107:17-22
17 Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities. 18 They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death. 19 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. 20 He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave. 21 Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men. 22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.
Col 1:21-23
21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation- 23 if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Since the fall of Adam in the Garden, mankind has constantly gone astray and tried to live without God. In every attempt to do so, we have made our lives miserable and filled with problems, leading us into more sin and farther away from God. It is only when we, like the prodigal son in the parable of Jesus, come to our senses and return to the Father can we find peace.
The wonderful news for us is that God is ever waiting with open arms for us to return to him in humble penance and he wants to forgive us. It is in Jesus Christ that we can be forgiven and thus reconciled to God. In being made right in our relationship with God do we find peace, joy and happiness.
This wonderful love of God contained in the gospel of our Savior and our Lord is free to all who will surrender to him. The problem too often is that people want to have the benefits of his love without yielding to his will in humble obedience. We cannot have Jesus as our Savior without accepting him as our Lord. As his children we seek to live for him and in him as he lives in us by faith.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your wonderful love and the forgiveness you have provided in Jesus. Help me never forget what a great sacrifice you have made for me so I will be more diligent to know you and yield to your will. I want to bring glory to you and honor your name in all I do, all I say and all I become in my life. Help me give up myself, my desires and my own thinking so I can be used by you in your way. Forgive me when I fail. Please be with those who are sick and suffering and give them your peace and healing. I pray in Jesus name.
