Daily Devotional: Psalms 109:6-15
Ps 109:6-15
6 Appoint an evil man to oppose him; let an accuser stand at his right hand. 7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty, and may his prayers condemn him. 8 May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership. 9 May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow. 10 May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes. 11 May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor. 12 May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children. 13 May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation. 14 May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the LORD; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out. 15 May their sins always remain before the LORD that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
Matt 12:30-31
30 “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. 31 And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.”
When the religious leaders of his day rejected the works of Jesus, accusing him of performing miracles by the power of the devil, they rejected God and the Spirit of God who worked in our Lord. As long as anyone continues in this attitude, there is no forgiveness for them. This is a denial of God, his Son and Holy Spirit.
For one to fight against David as the anointed king of Israel was to fight against God and his plan. David, like our Lord, took all kinds of personal abuse without any retaliation toward his enemies but when it was an assault on his position as king of the Lord’s people, it was an assault on the God of heaven and he would fight till the death to defend the honor of God. This was the will of God for him.
Today we may face abuse, scorn or even persecution for our Lord. We are told to accept it with joy because we are counted worthy to suffer with him. Like Jesus, we suffer while uttering no threats but entrusting ourselves to him who judges justly. We retaliate with prayer for our enemies and by doing good toward those who mistreat us. Our goal is to live good enough that they will glorify God.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your love for me. Give me a heart like Jesus so I can trust you in all things. Fill me with your love so that it runs over all those with whom I come in contact and they will see Jesus living in me. Rid my heart of all bitterness, anger and wrath. Help me give a blessing when cursed and kindness when treated unfairly. Lord, I am saddened by all of the unrest and hatred that is so prevalent in our country and the world. Give our leaders wisdom to seek peace with each other and the world around us. I pray in the name of Jesus.
