Daily Devotional: Psalms 115:10-18
Ps 115:10-18
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 11 You who fear him, trust in the LORD--he is their help and shield. 12 The LORD remembers us and will bless us: He will bless the house of Israel, he will bless the house of Aaron, 13 he will bless those who fear the LORD--small and great alike. 14 May the LORD make you increase, both you and your children. 15 May you be blessed by the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. 16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD, but the earth he has given to man. 17 It is not the dead who praise the LORD, those who go down to silence; 18 it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore. Praise the LORD.
Col 1:15-19
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
So much of the Psalms are praises to God for his greatness, his love, his mercy and his compassion toward those who serve him. Jesus is worthy of our praise. In the Revelation we read that as the Lamb of God, he is worthy of all praise, honor and dominion. Paul tells us that it is in Christ that all things exist and continue. Jesus himself declared that all authority had been given to him, both in heaven and on earth. He is our Savior by his choice and he is our Lord by our choosing.
We are to do all things in our lives to honor God and to glorify Jesus. As we allow the Spirit to live in us and be active in us, we will become more like him. He will strengthen us and provide us with the wisdom we need to serve our Lord.
We count it an honor to be able to work in the service of a high official. But as the children of God we are called to work in the service of the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. There is none higher or above him. Being a Christian is not to be a chore but counted as a privilege and pursued as the passion of our lives.
Heavenly Father, thank you for allowing me to be your child, in your family and a citizen in the kingdom of your Son. I am thankful for your Holy Spirit who lives in me and I ask for a heart that is always open to him and his bidding. Forgive me when I am stubborn or selfish and help me be more giving and caring. Give me wisdom to compare myself with your word and your Son and never with others around me. Help me strive for your perfection and never anything less. Use me to reach out to others and lead them to you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
