Daily Devotional: Psalms 116:7-14
Ps 116:7-14
7 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you. 8 For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, 9 that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living. 10 I believed; therefore I said, "I am greatly afflicted." 11 And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars." 12 How can I repay the LORD for all his goodness to me? 13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. 14 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people.
Col 2:6-7
6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.
To serve God is the whole purpose of mankind. When the Preacher considered life and all that is in life, he concluded our duty on this earth is to do the will of the one who created us because we will face him and give an account of our lives to him when this life is over.
Without this understand there is no meaning to life. Without God we are only here for a time and then gone and that is like chasing the wind. Our value is no greater but no less than the leaf that appears for a season on a tree and is then blown away to rot and decay. Life is meaningless and depressing with no real joy or purpose when we do not have God as the center of it all.
We cannot count the ways that God is blessing us daily. We know and see a few of these and we give him thanks but in reality we do not begin to know all he is doing for us each moment of our lives. He delivers us from harm and evil that we never see. He provides all our needs that we don’t even know we need. He heals our bodies when we don’t even know we are sick. He has put so many people in our lives who help us become what he wants us to be. We have Christian friends who support us when we struggle and who encourage us when we are down. In turn we praise our God and give him honor in our lives.
O Lord God, thank you for all you do for me every day. You have blessed me with family that loves you and each other. You have given me a spouse that loves you and has always helped me be faithful to you. Thank you for my son and his family and all the joy they give me every day. I ask you to use each of us to your glory as we serve you by serving others. I thank you for the church family where I attend and for the love shown to each other. Help us as a group and me as an individual to reach out to the lost with your gospel and to encourage those who are seeking to serve you in difficult situations. I pray in the name of Jesus my Savior.
