Daily Devotional: Psalms 119:105-112
Ps 119:105-112 Nun
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. 106 I have taken an oath and confirmed it, that I will follow your righteous laws. 107 I have suffered much; preserve my life, O LORD, according to your word. 108 Accept, O LORD, the willing praise of my mouth, and teach me your laws. 109 Though I constantly take my life in my hands, I will not forget your law. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, but I have not strayed from your precepts. 111 Your statutes are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart. 112 My heart is set on keeping your decrees to the very end.
2 Tim 3:16-17
16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The Bible is never out of date. In every age and in every place the word of God is just what is needed by all of mankind. The real issue is not his word but our faith in him. Are we willing to abandon our own wisdom, our own feelings, desires and thinking and allow him to lead us, guide us and actually tell us how to live? Jesus said he did not come to do his own will but the will of the one who sent him. We are to have this same attitude toward God and toward his word.
This requires both a strong faith and a deep humility on our part. It is never easy to give up “control” of our own lives. In reality we never have had control of our lives in the first place. We are at the mercy of others, or face the potential of both time and chance while at the same time are pawns in the hand of God. We look around and see many (often even ourselves) that have such great plans for the future and then an accident or illness befalls them (or us) and plans change. We are reminded by James to plan with God and his will in mind.
Heavenly Father, as I recognize your power, your wisdom and your great majesty, I stand in awe and ask you to guide me. Keep me aware that you are in control and my place in life is to serve you and do your will. Give me a greater desire to study, to know and to apply your word so I will be all you want me to be. Lord, your power is seen in so many ways; from the terrible storms and floods that come to the peaceful waves of the ocean as they come upon the shore. Your wisdom and your power are seen in the tides as they come and go but always within the boundaries you have set. Help me see the wisdom of your word as it relates to my life today and every day. Help me set my heart on keeping your decrees to the very end. I ask your blessings and peace on those who are hurting, those who are grieving and those who are sick. I pray in the name of Jesus.
