Daily Devotional: Psalms 122:1-9
Ps 122:1-9
1 I rejoiced with those who said to me, "Let us go to the house of the LORD." 2 Our feet are standing in your gates, O Jerusalem. 3 Jerusalem is built like a city that is closely compacted together. 4 That is where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to praise the name of the LORD according to the statute given to Israel. 5 There the thrones for judgment stand, the thrones of the house of David. 6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: "May those who love you be secure. 7 May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels." 8 For the sake of my brothers and friends, I will say, "Peace be within you." 9 For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your prosperity.
Eph 4:2-6
2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3 Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit- just as you were called to one hope when you were called- 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
“It is the Lord who justifies.” “And the Lord was adding to the church daily those who were being saved.” “By this all men will know my disciples because they love one another.” “What God has joined together, let man not separate.” “Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” “But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.”
It sounds to me like God wants his children to get along with each other; not only to get along but to actually love each other and live in harmony. We live in a world that is filled with all kinds of strife, envy, jealousy, hatred and bitterness but as Christians, we are to shine as lights in a dark world as we show forth the word of life. We let our light shine so men will see our good works and glorify God. As we incorporate the love of God in our lives, we cannot help but love each other and this love will bring peace with those around us. Because God is love.
Heavenly Father, Thank you for your love for all of mankind but especially, thank you for your love for me. I know that at times I am unlovable and stubborn as I seek my own way but in my heart I want to be like you. Give me courage to admit when I am wrong and strength to change my ways to conform to your will. Help me be at peace with all those around me and especially my brothers and sisters as we seek to serve you together. Give me wisdom to know how to disagree without being disagreeable. Be with those who are hurting. I pray in Jesus name.
