Daily Devotional: Psalms 135:1-7

Ps 135:1-7

1 Praise the LORD. Praise the name of the LORD; praise him, you servants of the LORD, 2 you who minister in the house of the LORD, in the courts of the house of our God. 3 Praise the LORD, for the LORD is good; sing praise to his name, for that is pleasant. 4 For the LORD has chosen Jacob to be his own, Israel to be his treasured possession. 5 I know that the LORD is great, that our Lord is greater than all gods. 6 The LORD does whatever pleases him, in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and all their depths. 7 He makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind from his storehouses.

Acts 17:24-27

24 "The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. 26 From one man he made every nation of men that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. 27 God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

By the power of his word, God created everything that exists. In the Genesis account, it tells us that he spoke and it came into being. By the power of his Son all things are upheld and continue today. Now stop and let this sink in!

We can buy materials and work hard and make a few things. God spoke the word and everything we see, hear, smell or feel (or read about) came from nothing. The vast unlimited power of God is beyond our ability to comprehend. This does not even touch on the divine wisdom of God to know what needed to be, how it would function or the order in which it must come into existence.

This great, powerful and majestic God knows you and me individually. He knows our every need and supplies them for us. He even works things in our lives for our good – not just some things but all things. He loves each of us so much he gave his Son to die for our sin so we might live with him in eternity.

Thank you God for loving me. Thank you Lord for giving me life and for saving me from sin. Give me a grateful heart and a willing spirit to serve you and to live for you in every way. I stand in awe at your majesty as seen in your creation. Open my heart to be more loving, compassionate, kind and forgiving. Give me wisdom and motivation to reach out with your gospel more often to more people. Use me to encourage those who are struggling to serve you. I pray in Jesus name.
