Daily Devotional: Psalms 140:6-13
Ps 140:6-13
6 O LORD, I say to you, “You are my God.” Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy. 7 O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle--8 do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah 9 Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused. 10 Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise. 11 Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence. 12 I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy. 13 Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.
Matt 5:3-10
3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
No matter what we face in life, God wants to be with us and protect us. When we are without God, it is only because we have rejected him – never because he does not care about us. God loved each one of us so much that he gave his special, one of a kind Son to come to earth, live as a man (being tempted but without sin) and then die on the cross as the penalty for our sin so that if we believe in him we can have eternal life. Since he did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how can he not be willing to give all in his power to protect us now? Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord!
As his children, we can go to God in prayer and know that he will always hear us and answer us. Nothing is too big to take to him and nothing is too trivial for him to listen and care. We can give him our cares and never have reason to worry.
Holy and Righteous Father in heaven, it is with deep humility that I come to you today but with complete assurance that you hear my prayer. Thank you for all you give me that I too often take for granted. Thank you for the sleep I have at night and for the new energy each day. Thank you for the physical things I enjoy in greater abundance than I ever dreamed possible. Help me use what I have to help others and to bring glory to your name. Use me to help mold and train those who are younger and seeking to serve you. I pray in the name of Jesus.
