Daily Devotional: Psalms 142:1-7
Ps 142:1-7
1 I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy. 2 I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble. 3 When my spirit grows faint within me, it is you who know my way. In the path where I walk men have hidden a snare for me. 4 Look to my right and see; no one is concerned for me. I have no refuge; no one cares for my life. 5 I cry to you, O LORD; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” 6 Listen to my cry, for I am in desperate need; rescue me from those who pursue me, for they are too strong for me. 7 Set me free from my prison, that I may praise your name. Then the righteous will gather about me because of your goodness to me.
John 15:9-13
9 "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.
Jesus, the Son of David, lived his life much the same as his ancestor David had lived his. His goal was to live in absolute obedience to God. While David failed to live up to this goal, Jesus was without sin in every way. Jesus lived his life as an example of the love God has shown each of us and the same love he wants us to show toward him by our obedience as well as our love for each other.
Even though his heart was pure, David suffered at the hands of evil men. From an early age, he was pursued and his life was in danger from Saul. He lived in caves and spent several years on the run. He had more than one opportunity to kill Saul and end all of this but refused because Saul was the anointed of God. He trusted God to bring it to an end in his own time.
Jesus suffered much, even death, at the hands of wicked men. He said he could call ten thousand angels and end all of it but that was not the will of his Father so he endured the suffering until his death. He trusted God in all things.
O Lord God, give me a greater faith to trust you in all things. Help me remember that no matter what I face in life, I must do your will with the confidence that you will take care of me and do what is best with me and for me. Thank you for all you have taken me through already and the great love you have shown me in so many ways. Let my life overflow with your love as your Spirit lives in me. Lord, I want to be an example for others to follow in faith, in love and in purity as well as in my speech and every aspect of my conduct. There are so many who are suffering in so many ways and I ask your mercy on each of them. I pray in Jesus name.
