Daily Devotional: Psalms 143:1-6
Ps 143:1-6
1 O LORD, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. 2 Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. 3 The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in darkness like those long dead. 4 So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. 5 I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. 6 I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah
Rev 6:9-11
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.
Without going into any specific application of these last verses, we can see that God does know what is going on in our lives and in his own time will make things right. Just because David did not see God’s deliverance from his mistreatment at the time he wrote this Psalms did not mean that God was not with him and very much aware of his suffering and the same is true in our lives today.
When we are faced with a dreaded disease, or we are suffering great pain in our bodies or the one we love has left us (either by death or by choice) or when we have lost our job or some other tragedy has occurred in our lives, we hurt and often we feel all alone but we must know that God is with us. He is keenly aware of all we face each day and is giving us strength to carry on. Much like the manna he gave Israel in the wilderness on a daily basis, he gives us what we need on a day by day or even moment by moment basis to carry us through our trials. “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so!”
O Lord God, I ask your blessings and your mercy on those who are faced with diseases that render them helpless or who are enduring great pain every day. Be with them and give your healing where it is your will but give your strength to trust you in all things and at all times. I also ask your strength and your patience for those who are care givers and who go through so much each day. For those who are taking care of their parents, give your wisdom and your peace. To all of us, give greater faith, more love and your peace. I pray in Jesus name.
