Daily Devotional: Psalms 143:7-12
Ps 143:7-12
7 Answer me quickly, O LORD; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. 8 Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. 9 Rescue me from my enemies, O LORD, for I hide myself in you. 10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. 11 For your name's sake, O LORD, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. 12 In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.
Rom 6:8-12
8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. 10 The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God. 11 In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. 12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
On several occasions, Jesus gave his reason for living as doing the will of the Father and in turn bringing glory to him. Paul said that he no longer lived but Christ Jesus lived in him. The Psalmist said he was living to do the will of God and in so doing, to honor him. We are to follow these examples and do the same in our lives today. Jesus said we are to let our lights shine so people will see our good works and glorify the Father in heaven. Paul said we are to shine like stars in a dark sky as we let God work in us to do his good will. It is all about God.
As the children of God we are to be a reflection of his glory to all around us. It is his light that others are to see shining in us. For this to happen, we must study his word to know his will. We then must be determined to live for him as we reject sin, flee from Satan and avoid every form of evil. But we not only put off the old person of sin, we must also put on the new person of holiness and righteousness in Jesus Christ. We allow his mercy and compassion to shine through us in our kindness and willingness to forgive so others will see his love in us.
Heavenly Father, it is such an honor to be your child and to know that I can come to you at any time and you will hear me. Thank you for loving me; me as a single person and not just the whole world in general. It is such a comfort to know that you see my every move and know my every care and thought. I want to live in such a way that always brings honor to you and your holy name but I know I say and do things from time to time that do not do that. Please continue to forgive me and help me learn from each time I sin. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
