Daily Devotional: Psalms 145:8-13
Ps 145:8-13
8 The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. 9 The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made. 10 All you have made will praise you, O LORD; your saints will extol you. 11 They will tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, 12 so that all men may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is faithful to all his promises and loving toward all he has made.
2 Peter 3:8-9
8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
Every false god and every false revelation of God’s will to mankind is either the product of someone’s imagination or the intentional design of one who wanted to reject the God of heaven. The thing all of these ideologies have in common is that they are selfish and look out for their own best interest and not that of those who serve them. This is because the people who produced them are sinful and without God in their thoughts and in their lives. So life is spent in total futility trying to appease the gods of the imagination by earning favor and goodwill.
The only true God, creator of heaven and earth and the designer and maker of all mankind, wants only what is best for his creation. He knows we cannot earn our salvation or appease his wrath against our sin so he has provided his own sacrifice to satisfy his justice. He wants all to come to him and accept his forgiveness, to enjoy his love and to benefit from his grace. He doesn’t want any to perish.
The response of our hearts should be that we love him in return for the great love he has shown to us in Jesus Christ. Jesus said if we love him we will obey him and his commandments. If we love him we will love those around us and share his love with them. His gospel is not a social gospel but nothing will change the world and society in which we live more than the teaching of Jesus and his disciples.
O Lord, Creator of heaven and earth, it is with humility that I come to you today and acknowledge that I have failed to be all you want me to be. I need you every day to give me wisdom, to give me strength and to energize me to be all you want me to become. Help me say what needs to be said in the way it should be said but to know when to be quiet and keep my thoughts to myself. Use me to lead others to you and to teach others how to live for you, both by my example and what I can say to them. Help me be kind and cheerful. I pray in the name of Jesus.
