Daily Devotional: Psalms 147:1-6

Ps 147:1-6

1 Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him! 2 The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel. 3 He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. 4 He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name. 5 Great is our Lord and mighty in power; his understanding has no limit. 6 The LORD sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground.

Col 2:9-12

9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the flesh, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.

Praise the Lord for his goodness and his kindness toward each of us. What a joy to be able to face today with the complete assurance that God knows each one of us and is aware of every trial and problem we face. Jesus our Savior has been where we are today and is keenly aware of what we face. With this knowledge, he goes before the Father today on our behalf. He is also aware of everything that brings us joy and rejoices with us in them. Praise the Lord for he is good!

The wisdom of God as seen in giving his Son to die for our sin is beyond our ability to truly comprehend. Even the devil thought he had defeated the plan of God when he watched Jesus die on the cross. Death had won the victory. But he was wrong and death was swallowed up in victory when God raised Jesus from the tomb, never to die again. In Jesus Christ we are more than conquerors.

Armed with the Holy Spirit living in us and clothed with the armor he provides, we face each new day with its temptations and trials knowing that we can have the victory. We have died to sin and now live to God in Jesus Christ. He has promised that we will never be tempted beyond what we are able to bear but with each temptation he will provide a way of escape. How fitting to praise the Lord!

O Lord God, I am so thankful for your love, for your kindness and for your grace shown to me in giving your Son to die for my sin. Thank you for providing all I need on a daily basis so I can continue to be yours. Use me to your glory and help me both see and use every opportunity you place in my life. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory and perfection. I ask your strength, not only for me but also for so many who are seeking to serve you in very difficult places – even in the face of persecution and death. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
