Daily Devotional: Psalms 148:7-14
Ps 148:7-14
7 Praise the LORD from the earth, you great sea creatures and all ocean depths, 8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds, stormy winds that do his bidding, 9 you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars, 10 wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds, 11 kings of the earth and all nations, you princes and all rulers on earth, 12 young men and maidens, old men and children. 13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, for his name alone is exalted; his splendor is above the earth and the heavens. 14 He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.
2 Peter 1:16-18
16 We did not follow cleverly invented stories when we told you about the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." 18 We ourselves heard this voice that came from heaven when we were with him on the sacred mountain.
What a wonderful thing it is to serve the only true and living God. How can one God who created all things exist in three persons? While there are ways we can explain this for our minds, none of these really explain the God we serve. He is the God who created all things and sustains life for all. He causes even the inanimate objects of his creation to sing praises to his holy name.
As we look at the list of things in the Psalm above, it is interesting to notice that in the same list are kings, princes, rulers along with birds, wild animals, cattle and small creatures. It was no more difficult for God to raise up a world leader than for him to bring into being an ant or spider. Also, the same God who designed the butterfly, made the heavenly hosts along with the sunrise and sunset with all the splendor and colors in the sky. Praise the Lord for he is great and majestic, he has done marvelous things beyond our understanding. Praise the Lord!
Heavenly Father, I thank you for your wonderful love and for the beauty and majesty of your creation. Truly, it is a fool who says there is no God when your creation cries out your existence all around me. I thank you for providing a way that I can live with you in eternity. Thank you for revealing your word so I can know you, your Son and your Holy Spirit – at least to some small degree. Lord, please use me in your service and help me see the opportunities you give. I ask your blessings on those who have been displaced by storms and earthquakes. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus, my Lord and my Savior.
