Daily Devotional: Psalms 2:7-12
Ps 2:7-12
7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father. 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. 9 You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Heb 2:9-11
9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, now crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10 In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.
There is no greater king than the Son of God. He rules over the nations, both in the physical/political world as well as all spiritual realms. While he places others in authority in various nations, his kingdom transcends national boundaries and political systems. His kingdom here on earth is just a foretaste of the realities and joys of heaven itself. As citizens of his kingdom, we submit to his rule.
While many view church as some great institution and others see it as just a big building, it is in reality the body of people who have been saved from sin and are united in Jesus Christ as their ruler and king. It is because of this that Jesus said that the kingdom of God is within you. To be citizens of his kingdom does not depend on where we are born or who our parents may be. It comes from giving Jesus our heart in faith and putting him on in baptism as we die to sin and are raised to walk a new life in him. He adds us to his church by his grace.
Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for your Son and all he has done for me to make it possible for me to be your child and in your kingdom. I know that I can’t really even begin to know all you do for me every day or how you do what you do. Help me show my gratitude to you in the way I live each day. I am so thankful for my family that you have given me – both my physical family and my spiritual family. Use me to lead others to you both by the things I say and the way I live. Forgive me when I fail to live up to your glory in every way. I ask you blessings on those who are sick and taking treatments. In Jesus name I humbly pray.
