Daily Devotional: Psalms 4:1-8
Ps 4:1-8
1 Answer me when I call to you, O my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; be merciful to me and hear my prayer. 2 How long, O men, will you turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? Selah 3 Know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD will hear when I call to him. 4 In your anger do not sin; when you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent. Selah 5 Offer right sacrifices and trust in the LORD. 6 Many are asking, "Who can show us any good?" Let the light of your face shine upon us, O LORD. 7 You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. 8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.
1 Thess 3:12-13
12 May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else, just as ours does for you. 13 May he strengthen your hearts so that you will be blameless and holy in the presence of our God and Father when our Lord Jesus comes with all his holy ones.
What a wonderful blessing to be able to be a child of God in a wicked world. We have the protection of the creator in every facet of our lives. Even beyond what we enjoy now, we have the promise that we will be with him in eternity. Satan may be allowed to tempt us but with every temptation, our Lord provides a way of escape. The devil can bring sickness or disease upon us or even take our physical lives but he cannot separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. We may face persecution but the worst that can happen does not begin to compare with the glory that is waiting for us when this life is over.
This means that when we lay our heads on our pillows at night, we can rest with assurance that all is well because we have the Lord beside us each moment of the day and all through the night. Our sins are forgiven and nothing is held against us because of the marvelous grace of God extended to us in the atoning blood of Jesus our Savior. In peace I will lie down and sleep for the Lord is with me.
Thank you Lord for your grace given to me in Jesus Christ; your Son and my Savior. I am ever grateful for your mercy shown to me because of your great love with which you have loved me. I am thankful that Jesus is my intercessor and through him I can come to you with confidence that you will hear my prayer. Thank you for doing what is best for me, even when I don’t know what I need or how to ask. Use me to do your will and to serve others as I have opportunity to do so. Forgive me when I fail to be what you want me to be and give me strength to show Jesus to others in the way I live each day. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
