Daily Devotional: Psalms 8:1-9
Ps 8:1-9
1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise because of your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? 5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Rom 1:18-20
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
“What is man that you are mindful of him?” When we consider who God really is and his indescribable power and his supreme majesty as the one who created all that we see and know (plus much, more that we have never discovered), how can he care about your or me as individuals alive in our time. Consider all of the people who live on earth, plus all who have ever lived and then know that God cares about each of us today. He sees us in our daily situations of life and has provided for our eternal life with him. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Paul says that the creation leaves everyone without excuse in their relationship with God. To not believe, one must willingly ignore the evidence or else be led astray by another who has rebelled against the creator. Every branch of science, which many use to try to deny the existence of God, is strong evidence in his favor. Every part of creation, from the largest planet in the sky to the smallest molecule and atom, screams for an intelligent designer with a master plan.
O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! It is with humble awe that I come before you today. I know in the overall magnitude of creation, I am but a tiny speck as dust and yet you have promised that you know me and you care about me. You see my sorrow and give me relief. You see my joy and rejoice with me in Jesus Christ. You give strength through your Holy Spirit when I am weak or burdened with temptations. I thank you and praise you for providing a way for me to be counted righteous in Jesus. In His holy name I pray.
