Daily Devotional: Psalms 10:16-18
Ps 10:16-18
16 The LORD is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land. 17 You hear, O LORD, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, in order that man, who is of the earth, may terrify no more.
Heb 2:17-18
17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
God has always taken care of his people. Today we have the power of God in our lives as the Holy Spirit lives in us and helps us. We have God the Father who watches over us and is ever present and ready to come to our aid. We have Jesus, our High Priest, our Savior, our Lord, our King and our brother who has faced all we face in life and he overcame it all by trusting in God. We too can overcome as we put our faith in Jesus and follow his will.
It is beyond our ability to comprehend how God can be God and at the same time become one of us and partake of our humanity in every way. How can one do the will of the Father without ever making a mistake or committing a sin? We just cannot comprehend all of this and yet Jesus did this for us. Because of his great love for us, he willingly went to the cross and suffered death on our behalf and for our sin. In his sacrifice we can be made perfect, completely righteous before the Father. This is our Lord and he is still king over all the nations of the earth.
God is the father of all comforts. When we are depressed (and most of us get that way at times – but so did Elijah and Moses so we are in pretty good company) we have a friend in Jesus who is always ready to listen to our needs and help us to overcome our feelings of dismay. God is also the God of peace and Jesus is the Prince of peace. It is with these things in mind that we remember that Paul said we are to rejoice in the Lord always and again he said rejoice!
O Lord my God, I am so thankful for your wonderful love for me and the blessing of being your child. As I live in a world of turmoil that is filled with bitterness, hate and all kinds of violence and sin, I thank you for providing a way of peace and love and giving assurance that you are in control. Thank you for the comfort you give when my heart is filled with grief and I ask that others who are hurting will find your comfort also. I ask a special prayer for those who are striving to overcome addictions that they can know your strength in their lives. Bless those who are taking treatments at this time. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
