Daily Devotional: Psalms 18:30-36
Ps 18:30-36
30 As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is flawless. He is a shield for all who take refuge in him. 31 For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God? 32 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. 33 He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he enables me to stand on the heights. 34 He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. 35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great. 36 You broaden the path beneath me, so that my ankles do not turn.
1 Cor 15:56-58
57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
The victory is the Lord’s. No matter what the battle or who seems to have the upper hand, the Lord is always the victor. Our faith in him assures us that we are on the winning side. On this earth, it may seem that we are not winning but the end of the battle is not here, it is in eternity. God has won the eternal victory in the resurrection of Jesus, his Son and our Savior.
The only question for us today is where we will stand. We can side with Satan and seem to prosper but in the end we will forfeit everything. Jesus asked what does it profit a person if we gain the whole world and lose our soul? Nothing on this earth is worth losing our eternal home with God.
The Holy Spirit will work in us and prepare us for every battle we face. God has promised that he will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bear but with every temptation he will provide a way of escape. Paul says that the Spirit working in us is a power that is exceedingly, abundantly beyond all we can think or imagine. The only limit on the power of God in our lives is when we doubt him or when we selfishly (and foolishly) go our own way, refusing to listen to him and his will for our lives. Since God is for us, who can be against us?
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, my mind is boggled by your majesty, your wisdom and the extent of your power. With my human limits of time and space, it is impossible for me to truly understand how great you are! Use me to do your will. Give me a pure heart and a relentless desire to know you and to be like you. I ask your mercy, your healing and your peace on those who are sick and who face suffering on a daily basis. Give me wisdom to know what I can do or say to help them. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord and my Savior.
