Daily Devotional: Psalms 22:6-11
Ps 22:6-11
6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people. 7 All who see me mock me; they hurl insults, shaking their heads: 8 "He trusts in the LORD; let the LORD rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." 9 Yet you brought me out of the womb; you made me trust in you even at my mother's breast. 10 From birth I was cast upon you; from my mother's womb you have been my God. 11 Do not be far from me, for trouble is near and there is no one to help.
Matt 27:41-44
41 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42 "He saved others," they said, "but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43 He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" 44 In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.
Heb 12:3-4
3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. 4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
Even those who mocked the Lord carried out the will of God, even quoting from scripture – without even realizing it. These were the “godly” leaders of the day and they knew the word of God. Yet, they condemned themselves in both the things they said and the things they did. God always has his way.
At times in our lives we feel that God has turned his back on us and the more we try to trust him and do his will, the more difficult things become. We seek to help others only to be ignored or even scorned for what we believe. But God is near to every one of us. James tells to draw near to God and he will draw near to us but resist him and he will resist us. God loves us more than we can imagine and he only wants what is best for us, all the time and in every situation. We never go wrong when we put our trust in him and follow his will for our lives.
Lord God, giver of life and creator of all things, I am so thankful to be recognized as your child. I know I don’t deserve to be able to come to you and talk to you about the things in my life but you have made it possible by your grace and your forgiveness in Jesus Christ, my redeemer. Give me a pure heart, a willing spirit and wisdom to always be what you want me to be. Help me always be honest with myself and with you about my life and my heart. Use me to help others in any way I can be used. I humbly pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
