Daily Devotional: Psalms 30:1-5
Ps 30:1-5
1 I will exalt you, O LORD, for you lifted me out of the depths and did not let my enemies gloat over me. 2 O LORD my God, I called to you for help and you healed me. 3 O LORD, you brought me up from the grave; you spared me from going down into the pit. 4 Sing to the LORD, you saints of his; praise his holy name. 5 For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.
1 Thess 5:16-24
16 Be joyful always; 17 pray continually; 18 give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not put out the Spirit's fire; 20 do not treat prophecies with contempt. 21 Test everything. Hold on to the good. 22 Avoid every kind of evil. 23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.
As we look back over our lives we see many of the times when God was working and delivered us from various perils. What we don’t see, is how many times he kept bad things from happening to us or when he removed some temptation that would have been to much for us to bear. We cannot understand how he weaves the fabric of our lives to provide what is best for our children, grandchildren or for others in our circle. He can use us to touch the lives of those around the world by connecting our circle of acquaintances with the influence of others.
Today is the day to praise God! He is the giver and sustainer of life. In the face of sorrow, in the hurt of pain and in the anguish of broken relationships, he provides healing, peace, comfort and joy. But we also praise him when everything in our life seems to be going the right way and all is good. It is his providential care that has made our day so bright and given us our closest friends.
When we have our victories in life we must praise God. Whether it is a promotion in our job, a new friend, finding a new book that opens our eyes or even winning a tournament; whatever we accomplish, it is God who made it possible.
Lord God, holy and majestic is your name in all the earth. Your glory is seen in all your creation. It is also seen in the many ways you have changed my life and you continue to mold me into your perfect image. I am so far from being all you want me to become but you have brought me a long way from where I was, and I praise your wonderful name. Help me never forget that life – even my own life – is not about me but about serving you and serving others around me. Use me in your own way to accomplish your will. I pray in the name of Jesus.
