Daily Devotional: Psalms 33:18-22

Ps 33:18-22

18 But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, 19 to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. 20 We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. 21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. 22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.

Rom. 8:24-26

24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. 26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

We live in hope. With the realization that this world and this life is temporary, we look forward to the eternal home in the new heavens and the new earth. Hope is far more than wishful thinking. Hope is joyful anticipation of that for which we long to attain. Hope keeps us going when times are tough. Hope motivates us when we get down and out. Hope assures us when we begin to doubt.

Faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the evidence of things we have not seen. Our hope is based on our faith in God, his truthfulness and the assurance of his promises. We are inspired by hope to live our lives for him and to follow his will because we have his promise that we will be with him in eternity. We can only imagine the beauty of heaven. It is beyond our ability to fathom a place that has no pain, no sorrow or tears. None of us can even begin to understand how awesome it will be to be in the very presence of God and to see Jesus in all of his glory. Add to this the promise that we will have eternal glorified bodies too!

But our hope is not just about heaven and eternity. We live in hope that God will be with us every day. We live in hope because Jesus is our Savior, our Lord, our Redeemer, our brother and our intercessor. Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lord God, giver of life and all things good, I come to you today with thanksgiving for the hope you have provided me in this life. Thank you for always being with me. Thank you for Jesus who walks with me each day. I pray today for each one who reads this (you know who they are) and ask your blessings on each of them in the special way they need you. Use me to encourage others in the things I say, the things I do and the things I write. Thank you for the encouragement others give to me as I seek to do your will. There are so many who have lost their loved ones in recent days and months and I ask your special blessing of peace and comfort on each of them as they trust in you. I pray in the name of Jesus my Lord.
