Daily Devotional: Psalms 34:15-22
Ps 34:15-22
15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; 16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to cut off the memory of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. 18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. 19 A righteous man may have many troubles, but the LORD delivers him from them all; 20 he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken. 21 Evil will slay the wicked; the foes of the righteous will be condemned. 22 The LORD redeems his servants; no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.
Rom. 8:26-27
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
God wants what is best for us. As our heavenly Father, he loves us and has our best interest at heart. This does not mean we will not have problems, but it does mean he will deliver us as we go through them. In fact, he allows many of them because they mold us, strengthen us, give us wisdom and build our faith.
As the children of God, we have the Spirit living in us. He knows what is in our hearts and a part of his work is to intercede on our behalf when we pray. Jesus also intercedes for us as he sits on the right hand of the throne of God. Our Father knows what we need (and want) even before we ask him. We are promised that when we ask according to his will, he will answer us and give us what is best.
There is nothing too large and nothing too small for us to bring to him. He longs to hear our joy and thanksgiving, but he also wants to hear our requests. He knows our weaknesses, but he wants us to talk to him about them. In this way we are given strength to overcome. There is no better time to mediate on the word of God than when we are talking with him. This opens the door of our hearts to a better understanding and wisdom of how to apply his word in our lives.
O Lord God, giver of life and creator of all things, I thank you for Jesus. Thank you for the life he lived and the death he died. Thank you for raising him from the grave and thus giving me the assurance that I too will be raised to live with you in eternity. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and on the things above where Jesus is seated in power. Thank you for your Spirit who lives in me, who helps me pray, gives me wisdom and empowers me to overcome temptations. Use me to bring glory and honor to your name. I pray in the name of Jesus.
