Daily Devotional: Psalms 36:5-12
Ps 36:5-12
5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. 6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O LORD, you preserve both man and beast. 7 How priceless is your unfailing love! Both high and low among men find refuge in the shadow of your wings. 8 They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights. 9 For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light. 10 Continue your love to those who know you, your righteousness to the upright in heart. 11 May the foot of the proud not come against me, nor the hand of the wicked drive me away. 12 See how the evildoers lie fallen--thrown down, not able to rise!
1 Peter 1:3-6
3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade-kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
God cares about you and me. He has provided a way by which we can live with him in eternity through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. But God and his love is not just about the hereafter. God loves us today and cares about our life here on earth. He is with us and protects us. Jesus is our constant companion, our intercessor and our High Priest. The Holy Spirit is working in our hearts and our lives to empower us, give us wisdom and help us become like Jesus.
Paul tells us to rejoice in the Lord always. Whatever our circumstance, no matter what we face, we can rejoice in the Lord. Peter tells us to rejoice in our sufferings because they will help build our faith and draw us closer to God. When we face the trials of life, we can use each experience to help others who face the same things in their lives. The God of all comforts gives us comfort so that we might comfort others who are hurting and struggling. O the infinite and unfathomable wisdom and love of our God and our Savior, Jesus Christ! Praise the Lord!
O Lord, creator of life and all things, it is with awe and wonder that I come to you today with thanksgiving for all you have given me in this life and all you do for me every day. When I sit down and count my blessing, I quickly find they are beyond number. You bless me in ways that I don’t even know, see or recognize. Thank you for your love and your kindness toward me. I need your help in so many ways, so I can become more like Jesus. Give me a pure heart, a loving spirit and a willing attitude to help others physically and spiritually. I pray in Jesus name.
