Daily Devotional: Psalms 37:30-34
Ps 37:30-34
30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip. 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives; 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial. 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
Col 2:9-12
9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. 11 In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the flesh, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
The pull of this world is so strong. We make a commitment to serve God and to live for Jesus as our Lord but too often we find ourselves going back to the old things that occupied our minds and lives before we were saved. Our service to God requires a daily (or, at times more often) commitment to live for him. This is not because we are not sincere in our faith but because we are human.
Begin human does not give us an excuse to sin but it does explain how we can be so determined to always do what is right and find ourselves doing or saying that which we don’t want to do or say. God has promised to continue to cleanse us from all sin and to count us as righteous before him when we are continuing to live for him. John calls this “walking in the light as he is in the light.” Walking in his light means we are seeking to know his will and to live it. It also means we have genuine love for others, a compassionate heart along with a forgiving spirit.
As we faithfully serve God as our Father and Jesus as our Lord, we have their promise to be with us and protect us. We also have the Spirit living in us who is always working on our behalf. He is giving us wisdom and understanding of the word. He is giving us strength and molding us to be like our Lord.
Heavenly Father, thank you for caring about me. Thank you for your love and your grace which provides me with your peace in the middle of a very tumultuous and wicked world. Help me keep my eyes focused on you and on the things above, where Jesus is seated at your right hand, so I don’t get caught up in the turmoil of the social and political issues in this world. Thank you for fellow Christians who are a constant encouragement to me. Use me to encourage others and to help them in whatever way I can be used to do so. I pray in the name of Jesus.
